Homeless camps

For most of us camping is a leisure activity, a way to experience “roughing it.” Recently here in COS we have had some controversial homeless camp sites appear and most recently an equally controversial ordinance that now makes it illegal to camp.  While I think the homeless camps have to go for the safety of the campers and the community, I also think it is important that we work to find a solutions for those in the camps.  The ordinance passed a little less than a month ago and is now starting to be enforced. I am pleased with the sensitivity being used to help relocate the campers.  I have been trying to find out how I can help and recently read this article and learned about this organization I have selected it as our charity of the month for March.

Great post. I often struggle with this issue in the Springs. You can rarely walk more than a few blocks downtown w/o get asked for money. While my natural urge is to say sure and give a handout, I just know that while it may relieve my temporary sense of guilt, it does nothing for the long term health of that person or the city. It’s great to know there are real ways to help these folks get back into the world.
