Captain Howdy Summer Movie Preview Part II

Well, we’ve hit the halfway point of the 2017 summer movie season but there’s plenty of popcorn left in the bowl. Let’s continue our quest to find each week’s summer movie gold.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7th)
As the title suggests, everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spiderman has finally come home to Marvel Movie Studios. For those uninitiated in the nuances of comic book film rights, the studio that brought you Ironman, Thor, and all those great Avengers movies hadn’t had a chance to get their hands on arguably their most iconic (and valuable) character until now. Introduced in last year’s ‘Civil War,’ the new Spidey stole the show. Geeks world-over rejoice, Spiderman is free at last!

War of the Planet of the Apes (July 14th)
If there is one series over the past decade that is criminally underrated, it’s the ‘Planet of the Apes’ saga. I can’t convince anyone to see these movies despite them being visually stunning, heart-wrenching, and insightful. I love movies that make me rethink how I view my world and no one does that like Caesar. Someone, anyone, please see this movie.

Dunkirk (July 21st)
I’m about to go full man-crush right now but Christopher Nolan is my personal Spielberg /Kubrick protein smoothie. Now some of you may want to burn me at the stake for saying such a blasphemous thing but who else pushes the visual and conceptual envelope but still delivers invigorating and emotional popcorn fare like this man. I wish he’d put out a movie every summer. This time he goes straight up British ‘Saving Private Ryan’ on us and will undoubtedly deliver one of summer’s most awards ready film.

Atomic Blonde (July 28th)
We all learned in Mad Max what a total bad-ass Charlize Theron is. Well, she’s back and let’s just say this stocking-rocking little gem goes out to all those ‘Lovers of Ladies’ listening tonight. You can thank me at about the 2:07 mark. Definitely NSFW but looks like a killer date night and maybe the hottest ride of the summer. ‘50 Shades’ eat your heart out.

Detroit (August 4th)
From the Academy Award Winning Director of ‘The Hurt Locker’ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ comes the movie America needs right now. The trailer alone will fry your mind and break your heart. If you can keep your eyes on it, you may be looking at this year’s best picture.

August 18th: Get outside and enjoy one of the last weekends of summer

It Comes at Night (August 25th)
Let’s finish off Summer with a little horror. Yep, I dare you to watch this trailer

So that’s it for Summer 2017. Makes me misty-eyed just typing those words. Thanks for coming back to The Captain. It’s been a long time. I’ve missed you guys and I hope you feel the same. Can’t wait to see you at the movies.
