A few weeks ago I read about a series of photographs by James Reynolds depicting last meal requests of death row inmates. I can’t get the images out of my head. His photographs are so simple yet incredibly thought provoking. To me it is the reduction of these lives down to a simple meal. What does each meal say about the person preparing to be executed? Why is this what they chose? What would I want as my last meal?
Do you find these images thought provoking? Would they even matter if they weren’t representing last suppers for those on death row? What would you want your final meal to be?
Easy…Mine would be some spicy-as-hell Beef chili, a couple slices of whole wheat bread smothered in creamy peanut butter and an ice cold microbrew rootbeer. Top it off with a snickers blizzard and send me off to see ol’ sparky happy as a clam.

Yeah, who would have thought a snickers blizzard??? Mine would entail lots of creamy pasta, bean burrito, apple crumble and pound cake….sounds heavenly!

I thought a snickers flurry from our local dairy bar might be too complicated for the prison guards so I went with something easier to find. Wouldn’t want to impose on my executioners. However, that memphis mud-pie I made for your birthday might be a close second.

I don’t agree with the death penalty, & the photos just sicken me even more over the whole thing. Very thought provoking indeed!
Great idea on the cupcake Brad! I just changed my dessert request. I want a Brooke made cupcake miniature of me on the lethal injection table that when a little flip is switched, white icing filling goodness oozes into my little IV’s. It’s like the world’s creepiest twinkie. I love this idea!
