We were just talking the other day about this very topic. After watching the RSAnimate segment on empathic civilization - http://bit.ly/cxic4C, one of our friends mentioned that people will always find differences to draw lines and boundaries. Wouldn't the world be an amazing place if we didn't see ourselves as Christian, and Muslim instead seeing Colts fans and Patriots fans with differences played out on the football field instead of the battlefield?

Thanks Leon - great post.

Ha Ha Leon- I don't even know where to start! The only bright side for you is that I think he is at the top of the hype cycle. I say this because my Grandma was the biggest Tebow fan there was in college. (Of course she was a big Florda fan living in the state for over 15 years)

I asked her what she thought about Tebow being with the Broncos and she said that she didn't think he was tough enough to play with the big boys. I was shocked as she was such a fan before. I'm hoping that Tebow is somewhere in between Facebook (at the top) and Myspace (played out) on the hype cycle. You know- somewhere between burning Qurans/Korans (at the top) and hating Mexicans (So last month) on the hate cycle.

-KK, and admitted suburb living, meat and vegetable eating, foreign car driving, gay and lesbian loving, football fan.

Isn't Korean BBQ fabulous? Love. And you are right. We just need to say that we've decideed we're doing something and do it. It's far too easy to talk ourselves out of everything so that we get to the point where we're existing, not living.

I totally agree! I thought we may have to suspend the tradition with the birth of Eloise, but we have continued.

I inadvertently did the same thing as Leon when I started law school. Unfortunately, because I never watched news anyway, just listened to NPR and skimmed the NYT sometimes, once those fell by the wayside I did find myself saying things like, "what's that about an oil spill?!"
So now I make an effort to skim the NYT again for any major headlines (and I usually listen to NPR on the way to school). But I have no desire or intent to start paying attention to the rest of the "news" drivel that just makes me sad to be a human.

Ha ha- I think Ms. Kelly might have a problem if I gave up my news addiction. Like Sampson's long hair, its the secret to my PR success. ;-)

After finally freeing myself of my news junkie addiction I realized after all this time that I wasn't being kept well informed but rather well duped. Just like you said KK, they (news media and not just mainstream anymore) create shit because they want you angry, worked up, and fuming mad because that's how they get you to come back. No one checks foxnews.com or huffpost 10 times/day if they are content. They check it if they are pissed. Perspective doesn't sell anymore. It's gotta be the end of the world or it's nothing and I for one am done and couldn't be happier about it. Try it for a week and I guarantee you will sleep a hell of a lot better at night.
