Kristin and I have decided (and by posting it here we now can’t back down) that in 2011 we are going to climb Pike’s Peak. If all those Western settlers and Native Americans can do it, surely with our camelbacks and high tech hiking equipment we can too.

On Monday we took a family bike ride to America the Beautiful Park and along the way I got a flat. Lucky for me Eloise and Papa are a professional bicycle repair dynamic duo.

In our lovely mountain town of Cripple Creek there are some very adorable donkeys. They are the descendants of the mining donkeys from over 150 years ago, used in the gold rush. In order for the town to feed and care for this wild crew of about a dozen, Cripple Creek hosts an annual event (now in it’s 79th year) called Donkey Derby Days.

Executive chef, Shane Lyons, of one of our favorite local restaurants, Nosh, was a former contestant on the Food Network’s The Next Food Network Star. This past week he brought some of his Food Network cronies to town for a benefit dinner.

We have had a really windy weekend, so much so that Eric and Becca’s flight out of COS yesterday was canceled. Trust me nothing is scarier than being in one of those prop planes in crazy winds. That said, it is great weather for kite flying, and that is just what we did.
